Historic "Blessing Cottage" Set To Go Up In Smoke Today!

One of the two original cottages on the campus of Skipstone, the two story cottage affectionately known as "Blessing Cottage" to staffers and campers from years past, will go up in smoke today.

"Blessing" is thought to have been built in the 1920s, one of two small cottages used when the property was originally a "fishing camp". Our family, as well as Mrs. Betty Riordan, who served for many years as the camp director for the Flint River Baptist Camp, each lived in "Blessing" for a season of our lives. Later, the two bedroom structure became home to our female summer staffers. It has served it's purpose well, but continues to deteriorate rapidly.

We have donated the failing structure to the Spalding County Fire Department for use as a training burn. They are set to do the training exercise today.

"Blessing Cottage" will eventually be replaced with a new pavilion overlooking the lake. Farewell old friend!

Whatever It Takes,
Chip Moody
